A Combined Online Gambling License Introduced by Alderney 10 Aug 2006 While it seems like online gambling activities are getting more and more restricted as governments around the world keep adding prohibitions and restrictions to the online gambling industry, the island of Alderney has recently introduced its "all-in-one" license policy to online gambling sites. Online gambling sites today work with activity-specific licenses, one for each type of activity offered on the online gambling site. This new combined online gambling license suggested by the island of Alderney after its review of legislation, basically merge all these types of licenses into one, which is suited for all online gambling activities. Robin Le Prevost, chief of ecommerce for Alderney jurisdiction, claims this merge became a necessity following the large number of legal modifications and the continuous evolving of online gambling industry. Le Prevost says "The whole purpose of this is that if you change legislation time and time again, it can get rather complex. What we are doing is starting again. You can't just keep putting band aids on; it is time to start afresh". Le Prevost also referred to online gambling sites which now offer integrated gambling online, combining products and services and becoming more and more popular. "Having just one license has a simplifying effect", Le Prevost comments, "multiple licenses add burdens and admin and bureaucracy. We are going to have one simple license. A trend in the industry now is to offer lots of products, not just a casino or a sports book. We wanted to mirror trends within the industry". This license, allowing online gambling sites to offer all online casino games and services, is now available for purchase. Online gambling sites operators can purchase this license for an annual fee of 70,000 GBS. | |||
